We keep and breed a pedigree herd of Boer Goats. This breed of goat originated in Southern Africa. They are mainly bred for their incredible meat and you could call them the creme de la creme when it comes to goat meat.
Goat Meat is rather exotic to the UK palate at the moment, many people not having ever tried it. However it is the preferred meat in many other parts of the world. It has a texture not unlike lamb however it is lighter in taste and does not have the distinctive smell or strong aftertaste that lamb or mutton has making it much more versatile.
Goat meat is a healthy alternative to beef and chicken because of its lower calorie, fat and cholesterol levels. A staple in North African and Middle Eastern cuisine, goat meat comprises 63 percent of red meat consumed worldwide, If you’re looking for a leaner alternative to traditional meats, goat meat could be the answer.
Our goats eat natural wild grasses in our fields, love to eat the odd stinging nettle, bramble and thistle. We also give them natural and organic grains in winter and also as a treat. They are also partial to Himalayan rock salt licks!
We have a limited production of Goat and Kid Goat each year, we sell this on our online shop, use it in our charcuterie and cook it at our Feast Nights.
